Nettles (Uritica dioica)
Nettles are one of the best plants for human health, both as food and medicine. Nettles were traditionally used in Ireland as a Spring tonic and made as a soup to cleanse and purify the bloodstream.
It is highly nutritious and contains chlorophyll, vitamins A,B,C,D,E,K as well as a wide range of minerals and trace elements. Nettles have an antihistamine effect, valuable for treating hay-fever and certain skin disorders. They can also reduce the severity of asthma attacks. Nettles enhance immunity, thus warding off infections. Nettles reduce blood sugar levels, stimulate circulation, dilate peripheral blood vessels and promote the elimination of urine which helps lower high blood pressure. Stinging nettles are particularly indicated for those suffering from arthritis, rheumatism and gout. They help to clear the the blood of urates and toxins, partly by stimulating the kidneys.
