Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. In times past people were expected to abstain from all animal fats during Lent (eggs, butter, milk, meat). In the 19th century the custom changed so that only Ash Wednesday and Good Friday were strictly observed fasts. Nowadays, many people give up something for Lent, this can often be a habit or something they like such as alcohol or choclate! More recently people choose to take up some spiritual disipline at this time such as going to mass or meditating. Today, I will fast on warm water with apple cider vinegar and a pinch of cayenne pepper in it. For one week, I will be doing a "7 Day Juice Fast", so i'm looking forward to keeping you posted on my journey!
